Hon. Stéphane
Dion
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A6
Dear Mr. Dion:
I would like
to take this opportunity to express the deep concerns that
the (insert the name of chamber/board of
trade here) has with private member’s Bill C-415, An Act to Amend
the Canada Labour Code (replacement workers). As you are aware, Bill
C-415, introduced into the House of Commons on March 22, 2007 by Mr. Mario
Silva, Liberal MP for Davenport, is currently being appealed by Mr. Silva at
the House Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. Mr. Silva is appealing a
ruling by the Subcommittee on Private Members’ Business, which ruled Bill
C-415 to be non-votable since it was deemed to be substantially similar to
Bill C-257, a private members’ bill introduced in the House and rejected
earlier this year.
The
(insert the name of chamber/board of trade here) fully supports the
rights of parliamentarians to change public policy through private member’s
bills. However, with Bill C-415 being substantially similar to Bill C-257,
we encourage you to support the ruling of the Subcommittee on Private
Members’ Business. As such, (insert the
name of your chamber/board of trade) would like to count on you in
ensuring that Bill C-415 does not proceed to a vote. Attached is a statement
that outlines further our views on Bill C-415, and we would be pleased to
meet with you to further discuss our concerns.
Sincerely,
(insert the
