Recent Increase in Business Armed Robberies
have prompted the Lloydminster Chamber and the RCMP to hold this robbery prevention luncheon seminar.

There has been a recent increase in the frequency and number of armed robberies in Lloydminster in recent weeks. The businesses that are being frequently robbed have been gas stations, liquor stores, and late night convenience stores.

Proactive steps that business owners can take as preventative measures include the following:

  • Install up to date video surveillance with cameras place d at eye level and know how to use the system.
  • Having more than one employee during evening and midnight shifts
  • Maintain low till limits by establishing a money drop system. Advertise this fact.
  • Install a drop safe on the premises to which only the owner or manager has access.
  • Have bait money in all denominations (pre-recorded serial numbers of bills at bottom of the stack in the till).
  • Lock entrance doors to the business during evening and midnight shifts to manage who enters the business.
  • Ensure perimeter and parking lot lights turn on at dusk
  • Keep interior, front, and rear entrances well-lit.
  • Keep rear and side entrances locked.
  • Avoid displays that block the view of the cash register from outside.
  • Be suspicious of anyone loitering outside. Stay alert at all times: be aware of what’s happening outside the building.
