Eric Stanley Dunstan was born on March 9, 1906 in Doncaster, England, and came to Canada with his parents and three sisters in 1914. His father purchased a farm ten miles north west of Lloydminster where Eric grew up. Eric attended Westdene and Staplehurst Schools, finishing his education at Vermilion. He also attended a year of college in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Eric remained a bachelor and devoted much of his time to community involvement. He was a past master of Britannia Masonic Lodge, a member of St. Johns Anglican Church, a director of the Lloydminster Exhibition Association, a director of the Museum Board and enjoyed a good game of cricket. Eric was also an ardent fan of the Edmonton Eskimos, attending all home games.
Eric’s usual “Sunday after Church” was spent at the home of his sister Edna and her husband, Jack Kelly.
Eric was an excellent farmer. He, along with his father, cropped a large number of acres and also raised purebred Shorthorn cattle. The cattle won many prizes at fairs and bull sales.
Eric retired to Lloydminster in 1964. He passed away January 5, 1976 at the age of 69 years.
Eric Dunstan had a great interest in young people and in keeping with his philosophy of life, he left monies for the further education of future generations. The Dunstan Scholarship was established in 1971. Eric Dunstan was a good citizen and will long be remembered by his many friends.
